There are different speeds available in all three main categories:-

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line). Download speed from the Internet is faster than upload to it, hence the term 'Asymmetric'. Only available within a few kilometres of specially enabled BT telephone exchanges.

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), is a full duplex connection, i.e. the same speed each direction. again, only available within a few kilometres of specially enabled BT telephone exchanges.

Satellite Broadband can be either Asymmetrical or symmetrical. Available anywhere you can get a clear line of sight to the south at around 25 degrees.
